From assessment to operation.
All from one partner.

You make the key decisions. We handle the rest.

The project

How a battery project with FION works

We take full responsibility for the project, from the technical site visit to grid approval and commissioning.

Step 1

Technical site visit

Step 2

Grid connection, registration and permits

Step 3

Metering concept & energy market setup

Step 4

Coordinating trades and scheduling

Step 5

Delivery, installation and technical implementation

Step 6

Commissioning and handover to operation

Working together

Your effort at a glance

At every step it is clear what we take on and where your team is involved.

Your typical effort

  • Providing energy data
    • Load profiles
    • Tariff information
  • 2 to 3 key alignment meetings
    • Kick-off and objectives
    • Site visit
    • Results and decision workshop
  • Internal approvals
    • Capex or opex
    • HSE
    • Plant management
  • Involving your in-house electricians (optional)

Your in-house electricians stay on board.

FION takes care of

  • Analysis, battery sizing and business case
  • Technical planning and design of the battery
  • Central project management and a single coordinator
  • Liaising with the grid and metering operators
  • Preparing the technical documentation
  • Supporting installation, testing and commissioning
Step by step
Step 1

Before we send you a quote, we come and look at your site

So that what we plan really fits your day-to-day reality.

Checking the grid connection point and infrastructure

  • Connection type & voltage level
  • Available capacity
  • Protection and metering concept
  • Cable runs & distance
  • Approved connection capacity

Assessing the installation area

  • Suitable space
  • Logistics & access
  • Fire protection & safety
  • Protection & control concepts (e.g. NA grid and plant protection, plus a power plant controller where solar PV is already installed)

Operational conditions

  • Alignment with internal stakeholders
  • Coordination with ongoing operations
  • IT & EMS integration (data points, meter concept, interfaces, monitoring)
After the site visit, you receive a site visit report with a technical review of the grid connection, photo documentation, identified risks and a validated budget and feasibility assessment.
Step 2

Grid connection, registration and permits: we help with the most critical part of the battery project

We coordinate every step with grid operators and authorities, so everything runs smoothly.

What we do for you:

  • Preparing the application documents for the grid operator
  • Compiling technical data on the battery, the inverters and the protection concept
  • Liaising with the grid and metering operators
  • Coordinating any certificates, measurements or expert reports that may be required (e.g. from independent testing bodies such as TÜV)
We make sure that only certified, compliant components are used and that all required technical documentation and certificates are complete.
Step 3

Metering concept & energy market setup

Without a correctly structured metering and balancing concept, taking part in power markets is either impossible or carries billing and regulatory risks. We help you structure it.

During project development, we:

  • draw up the metering concept, taking battery operation and trading into account
  • structure market locations and balancing groups (e.g. separating supplier and trader)
  • confirm feasibility with the third-party metering operator
  • prepare the energy data flows and market communication
  • make sure all relevant energy-industry identifiers (e.g. market locations/MaLo IDs) are in place, applied for in time and correctly assigned
Step 4

Smooth construction

We coordinate every trade involved centrally, so planning, delivery and installation dovetail.

What we do for you:

  • Coordinating the battery manufacturer, electrician, civil works contractor, metering operator and grid operator
  • Scheduling delivery, foundation work, connection and commissioning
  • Clarifying technical interfaces: protection concept, integration into the main low-voltage switchboard, grid connection parameters and remote controllability
  • Making sure all requirements for on-time commissioning are met
Aligning everyone involved early avoids delays, downtime and extra costs, and ensures a structured transition from planning to implementation.
Step 5

Delivery, installation and technical implementation

The battery is integrated smoothly around your ongoing operations.

What happens on site:

  • Delivery of the battery system to the agreed schedule
  • Foundation and cable route work
  • AC connection and integration into the existing distribution system
  • Installation of metering and communication equipment
  • Implementation of grid operator requirements (e.g. remote controllability)
  • Implementation and integration of the agreed protection and connection concept
Step 6

Commissioning and grid approval

Once construction is complete, the battery is technically tested, approved by the grid operator and moved into regular operation.

This phase covers:

  • Technical commissioning and parameterisation of the battery
  • Protection and function tests
  • Submitting the commissioning documentation and agreeing it with the grid operator
  • Activation and start of trading
From this point on, the energy management system and AI-based FION control take over. More on FION control
